About the superintendent
Dr. Marcelo Cavazos was named AISD superintendent in 2012. Dr. Cavazos began his career as an English teacher in the Mission Consolidated ISD in 1990 and has worked at McAllen ISD, Mercedes ISD and San Benito Consolidated ISD, as well as the Texas Education Agency. He joined Arlington ISD as associate superintendent for instruction in 1999. He has also served as a lecturer for the University of Texas at Arlington’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.
About the president of the board
Jamie Sullins has served on the AISD board since May 2010 and as president since 2015. AISD was named Outstanding School Board in 2014 by the Texas Association of School Administrators and in 2015 by the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. Sullins has worked in financial planning at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Interturbine Group of Companies. A lifelong community volunteer, Sullins has served on four PTA executive boards and is founder and past president of the North Arlington Education Alliance.
