District mission

To develop, in collaboration with the home and community, the potential of all learners to become participating and productive members of society.

Greatest challenge

With a large number of students who are economically disadvantaged, PSJA is always looking for solutions that will improve performances of all students through best teaching practices.

About the superintendent

A public school superintendent for the last 18 years, Dr. Daniel King was recently named the 2013 Texas Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators and was the 2006 Superintendent of the Year for the Texas Association of School Boards. Under his leadership since 2007, PSJA has made tremendous progress on some of the most significant challenges that face our state and nation. Before coming to PSJA, Dr. King led Hidalgo ISD for eight years.

About the President of the Board

Ben Garza has served as a member of the PSJA School Board for more than 10 years, including three of those years as president. Since graduating from the University of Texas-Pan American with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Garza has worked as an Accountant for La Joya ISD. Born and raised in Pharr, he is committed to giving back to his community and providing better opportunities for students and families at PSJA ISD.

This partnership will provide our team the opportunity to take our existing commitment to leadership development and support to a world-class level.
