Andrew Murphy was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and can trace his passion for education to his own educational journey. From his varied K-12 experience, Andrew experienced a range of approaches to teaching and learning and knows firsthand the impact that a quality education can have on a person’s life and on the communities in which they live.

After college, Andrew joined KIPP San Antonio Public Schools as a development coordinator and supported the organization’s fundraising efforts through grant writing, event planning, database management and board engagement. In July of 2018, he transitioned to the role of grants manager and supported the launch of KIPP Texas Public Schools. Over the course of five years in those roles, Andrew managed an annual foundation portfolio of over $5 million and helped both organizations raise over $20 million. After his time as a grants manager, Andrew transitioned to the role of senior manager of strategic partnerships at KIPP Texas, where he helped create and implement a comprehensive short- and long-term strategy for prospect, supporter, volunteer and board engagement.

Andrew holds a bachelor’s degree in educational studies from Vassar College, where he confirmed his passion for education through the study of historical inequities and paths toward a more equitable future.

In his free time, Andrew enjoys cooking new and old recipes, biking up and down Mission Reach, watching good and bad TV series, and taking care of his jungle of houseplants with his husband David.
